Vegas Style on a Budget

by Julia Maxwell, Contributor

Not everyone is lucky enough to win a huge jackpot at an online casino to pay for a big shopping spree during their next visit to Vegas, but all you need are a few tips and a smart shopping strategy to make sure your next shopping trip in Sin City is a huge success. Las Vegas is one of the world’s best cities to shop in, with many top fashion designs and styles on display. The real beauty of shopping Vegas is that it’s not just the rich and famous that can pick up some great new additions to their wardrobes, with amazing bargains to be had for shoppers on a budget.

You’re definitely missing out if you just shop at stores and shops attached to casinos such as the Forum Shops or The Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian and Palazzo. It’s definitely convenient to shop at the hotel and casino that you’re staying at but you’ll pay far more for the same item than you might if you take a short cab ride to many of the outlet stores and shopping malls scattered throughout Las Vegas. Fashion Outlets of Las Vegas is about a ten minute cab ride from most Strip casinos and offers substantial discounts (including deals of up to 50-75% off normal retail price) on items from retailers such as Coach, Ann Taylor, Williams-Sonoma, DKNY, and Lucky.

Las Vegas Premium Outlets is another great place for bargain shopping in Las Vegas, and is also just a 10-15 minute cab ride from the Strip towards downtown Las Vegas. You’ll find exactly the same brands that you will in the shops on the Strip — including Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Hugo Boss, Diesel, and Ed Hardy — but at a big discount that you’re used to finding at outlet malls in general. While you won’t find the same deep discounts at Fashion Show Mall that you will at the outlet stores, it’s location next to Treasure Island and across from the Palazzo and Wynn do make it a convenient choice that still offers savings when compared to shops in the casinos themselves.

It may sound a bit odd but if you’re looking for high-end jewelery or sunglasses you might try some of the numerous pawn shops in Las Vegas. For better or for worse, slots and video poker junkies have been known to pawn just about anything to keep the reels spinning. It might feel somewhat shady to take advantage of someone else’s misfortune by picking up jewelry at a 50% discount to what you might pay at a shop at the Bellagio or Wynn but someone is going to get that great deal, and a surprising amount of fashionable, high-end jewelry finds its way into the many pawn shops in Vegas.
