It was only a matter of time before Chi Spacca showcased their spin on the still-popular smash burger. Why? Because the meat-centric Italian restaurant is owned by Nancy Silverton, the original queen of bread in Los Angeles. Quality Meat + Delicious Bread = One Tasty Burger!  I don’t actually know that the bread is baked in-house. BUT I do know each burger and the buns are grilled to perfection on their wood grill, slathered with the proprietary aioli, built with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and sauteed onions, and serve with generously salted steak-cut fries.

Burgers are what’s on the concise menu and there are five different burgers to choose from, including a lamb burger and a couple of double patties, as well as a grilled cheese option. These juicy burgers are sizable so I think most people will be satisfied with the Classic (described above) but the two doubles come with different things so my next visit might be with a friend who will split a double with me.

The setup is a little odd because the original restaurant wasn’t built for counter-order style. Once you are allowed in, you walk through the small dining room to the person in the rear by the kitchen to put in your order, then ping pong back to the front to buy your drinks (Italian sodas, beer & wine).

The burgers are available only once a month on the first Saturday of the month from 11:30a-2pmand there is usually a line around the noon time frame but it moves at a decent pace and the burgers are worth the wait.

**UPDATE** The Melrose Smash Burger is available also on Mondays & Tuesday nights for guests dining at the Chef’s Counter.
