Cell phones have become just as important as wallets and when we happen to forget them, we tend to feel vulnerable, as if we’ve lost touch with the world. Apparently, there’s a new fashionable way to carry your cell phone with you as an accessory. We caught up with Andrea Behar, designer of Cellies, a wristband that allows you to carry your iPhone wherever you go. Behar explains her styles and what led her to create the stylish wristbands.

Andrea Behar, designer of Cellies

1. What inspires you and what makes your styles unique?
My inspiration came from my mother who owned a New Jersey boutique department store. After successfully designing for several years, I continue to draw inspiration from the world around me, the streets, nature, architecture, it all depends on the season and my mood. My style is unique because my clothing has a couture-like sensibility transformed into everyday wear, embellished and intricate details paired with feminine silhouettes are the base for my collections.

2. How did you come up with the idea for Cellies?
I needed to solve a real problem I was having; missing calls and not being able to find my phone inspired me to design a chic phone accessory that would solve this problem and add style to any outfit as well. Bulky belt clip-ons are not for me, a stylish cuff bracelet to tuck my phone in to is the best way for me to carry my phone hands-free and still have access all the time.

3. Cellies would make a great gift. Do you have any suggestions of where or how to wear the product?

Retail Cost: $35.00

Cellies is a great gift, anyone can wear the rhinestone stud versions to their next holiday party or event, it’s a great way to conceal your phone in a stylish way without having to miss that call. Any sports enthusiasts would love our terry versions, perfect for working out, strolling through the park, or walking your dog. The leather version is a great luxury item for anyone on your gift giving list and don’t forget to slip a Cellies on your wrist during all of your busy holiday shopping this season.

4. Where can we find your designs? Stores or online?
Designs can be found through the Boston Proper Catalog or their website online as well the Neiman Marcus catalog.

5. What is the best piece of advice someone has given to you?
Believe in yourself and all will believe in you!

6. Do you have any advice for designers just starting out?
Go for your dreams and never give up, no matter how hard something seems keep striving towards your goal and eventually you will achieve your aspirations.

What we thought:

Pros: We got a hold of the Cellies wristband and found that it was indeed stylish. We tried the wristband without the phone and found that it looked great and complemented any outfit. (See picture above).

Cons: Once we put the iPhone into the wristband, we found that it looked bulky and a bit awkward. Beware if you wear size XS or S (like me), your wrist will look square, especially if the width of the iPhone is bigger than the width of your wrist!

Perhaps it was our iPhone case, but we found that the wristband looked best when the iPhone was concealed.

Overall, we loved the design, the wristband was great but we’re not sold on the phone as an accessory. I’d suggest leaving the phone out of the equation.
