My TikTok For You Page (FYP) has been taken over by BookTok recommendations and at the top of the list is Lights Out with the unhinged audiobook being a must-listen. Narrated by Elena Wolfe and Jacob Morgan, this cat and mouse book gets a 10/10, especially as my first BookTok rec.
Lights Out, a spicy dark romance rom-com, comes with trigger warnings including stalking, violence, death, mental health struggles, gore, and sexual content.
I finished this audiobook in two days thanks to the engaging narration by Elena Wolfe and Jacob Morgan, as they brought the characters to life and played into the vivid descriptions between hacker/stalker/masked shirtless thirst trap TikToker Josh and workaholic ER nurse Ally.
The narrators do a fantastic job playing out intense, romantic scenes (that actually made me blush). If BookTok girls want to live out their sexual fantasies between a Golden Retriever-type male main character (MMC) and a feisty female main character (FMC), then this is the book for you.
Ally, the workaholic nurse whose TikTok FYP is filled with masked shirtless men, ends up hunting her stalker. You can only imagine what happens between these two characters, and author Navessa Allen’s descriptive and immersive writing is Chef’s Kiss. 🤌🏽
I also enjoyed the funny banter between the characters Ally and Josh as well as the alternating points of view with each chapter focusing on Ally’s thoughts followed by Josh’s.
There’s no doubt that the audiobook intensifies feelings of suspense, tension, and longing. The slow-burn romance is loved by the BookTok community and I finally understand the hype.
