Restaurant Spotlight: Joseph Centeno’s Orsa & Winston

Intricate and inventive without being all the way molecular, Orsa & Winston is one of the friendlier prix fixe menus around. Josef Centeno’s third restaurant is a departure from the previous two – not only is it not a Mexican fusion, it offers only prix fixe. The tasting menus bring flavors ranging from (the all popular) egg cooked in shell to sashimi and the portions are quite generous for a tasting menu.

The formality of food, and especially the vibe, is somewhere between Melisse and Maude. The food is still carefully constructed but instead of “granny’s dishes,” they are plated on uniform white plates. However, the waitstaff is more relaxed and the conversation less hushed than Melisse. While the price point might preclude it from a casual night out, with a 5 course prix fixe, O&W is a great deal and should not be saved for the rare “special occasion” and instead be enjoyed more regularly.
