What
LA Sena Gallery presented CLUSTERFUCK, a photography exhibition by Ed Templeton and Deanna Templeton, now on view at The Reef in Downtown Los Angeles. The show spans three decades of photographs pulled from their personal archives and is installed on the building’s 12th floor.
Art Description Transcribed:
“This installation of photography is an overview of the work of Ed and Deanna Templeton. They have raided their archives and storage to bring together a sort of litmus-test of what they have been shooting over the last 30 years. Some of what you see here are finished prints. Both framed & unframed fiber-based silver gelatin and C-prints, along with lots of “Studio Scraps” composed of artist’s proofs, work prints, proof/match prints, RC prints, and test strips. The kind of photographic detritus that collects from a lifetime of darkroom sessions, making photobooks, exhibitions and experimentation. Some prints are printed digitally at a lab, some are made by hand in our home darkroom. Many of Deanna Tempetons’ projects are represented here. Her projects The Swimming Pool, Body Autographs, her global street photography, and specifically her documentation of her hometown of Huntington Beach is present here. Her most recent body of work “What She Said” was recently exhibited at both SFMoma and OCMA. There are some images from that work here as well. Ed joins Deanna in documenting their hometown filled with endless blocks of tract housing, distracted youth, religious zealots, surfers, punks, and right-wingers making Suburbia a common thread through both of their work. They published a book called “Contemporary Suburbium” on this theme via Nazraeli Press. Photographs from Ed’s various projects such as Wires Crossed, Teenage Smokers, Teenage Kissers, Wayward Cognitions, Tangentially Parenthetical, Deformer, along with street photography from all over is presented here. Usually we make a diagram so you can see who took each photo, but there isn’t one for this show. We had no time. Many of the photos you’d think would be mine are in fact Deanna’s. So have fun with that and enjoy the guessing game. Send us a DM on insta if you’re curious who shot which photo.
-Ed Templeton”

Why It Matters
This exhibit offers a rare look behind the lens of two artists deeply embedded in skateboarding and subcultural history. Rather than polished nostalgia, CLUSTERFUCK documents real lives, friendships, chaos, and quiet moments accumulated over roughly 30 years. Visitors can also purchase books and prints, directly supporting the artists and the work.

FYI, I’m trying a new article format, which is much more condensed like Axios style posts.
