Tunde Oyeneyin’s book “SPEAK” offers valuable insights and advice for personal growth and empowerment. When I used to have a Peloton, I would take Tunde’s classes since they were uplifting and tough. Here are some lessons and advice that readers can take from her book, which I enjoyed:

  1. Embrace Authenticity: Oyeneyin emphasizes the importance of being true to oneself. Authenticity breeds confidence and self-respect, enabling individuals to navigate challenges with integrity.
  2. Find Your Voice: “SPEAK” encourages readers to discover and amplify their voices. Whether it’s speaking up for themselves, advocating for others, or pursuing their passions, finding one’s voice is essential for personal empowerment.
  3. Overcome Adversity: Oyeneyin shares her own experiences of overcoming adversity, including racism, body image struggles, the death of her family members, grief, and mental health challenges. Readers can learn from her resilience and determination to face obstacles head-on.
  4. Embrace Imperfection: Perfection is an unattainable standard that often leads to stress and dissatisfaction. Instead, “SPEAK” advocates for embracing imperfection and focusing on progress rather than perfection.
  5. Practice Self-Care: Self-care is a recurring theme in Oyeneyin’s book. Prioritizing mental, emotional, and physical well-being is essential for navigating life’s challenges and sustaining long-term success. Meditation and relaxing self-care soaks/baths, is a great way to unwind.
  6. Cultivate Resilience: Resilience is the ability to bounce back from setbacks stronger than before. “SPEAK” encourages readers to cultivate resilience by reframing setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning.
  7. Support Others: Building a supportive community is crucial for personal and collective empowerment. Oyeneyin emphasizes the importance of uplifting and advocating for others, creating a culture of mutual support and empowerment.
  8. Set Boundaries: Boundaries are essential for maintaining healthy relationships and protecting one’s well-being. “SPEAK” encourages readers to set clear boundaries and assertively communicate their needs and limits.
  9. Celebrate Diversity: Embracing diversity enriches communities and fosters inclusion. Oyeneyin celebrates diversity in all its forms and encourages readers to champion equity and inclusion in their own lives and communities.
  10. Keep Growing: Personal growth is an ongoing journey. “SPEAK” reminds readers to embrace opportunities for learning, self-discovery, and personal development, continually striving to become the best versions of themselves.

By incorporating these lessons and advice, readers of “SPEAK” can cultivate greater self-awareness, resilience, and empowerment, ultimately leading to more fulfilling and impactful lives. I highly recommend this book and I give it a 10/10.
