Restaurant Spotlight: Church Key on the Sunset Strip

Let’s get one thing straight – Church Key is NOT an Asian Fusion restaurant, though you are not alone if you thought it was. They have a menu of “Modern American Cuisine,” which ranges from small plates of English Pea “hummus” to Oysters and larger plate of Potato Pierogies and Ribeye Steak for two. There are four “dim sum style” carts but they are laden with rolls, cocktails, and other non-Chinese foods. One is even an OG drink-cart from Pan-Am, complete w a girl dressed in the iconic blue uniform (probably from the shortlived TV show, not the actual airline). While it gets an A for execution, it was stylistically incongruous with the beautifully and tastefully neutral-toned interior.

But back to the food. The diverse menu was delicious, and i was overjoyed to spot my favorite beer, Duchesse de Bourgogne on the well-rounded beer list. While the inventive cocktail list was hit or miss,
they have a well-stocked bar and a willing bartender who will make bespoke drinks, even if your server doesn’t know what that means.

Whether you want to partake in “the scene” at this well-appointed, delicious new-ish place on Sunset Strip on a Friday night or go with friends on a weeknight, it is worth the traffic.
