AFI fans will be glad to know that front-man Davey Havok will be debuting his novel, POP KIDS on April, 4 through Black Candy Publishing. In this book, Havok opens the Kimono and gives readers a glimpse of the frenetic lives of today’s pop-culture obsessed youth. This novel is supposed to be a compelling portrait of high school angst, nihilistic behavior and longed-for redemption.
POP KIDS is expected to shock some readers with its unflinching portrayal of a generation weaned on modern media and the cult of celebrity. Teens are obsessed with social networking, reality TV, Internet porn, fashion, film, music, sex, and drugs. According to Havok, this is a world that really exists. He captures all of this with his trademark use of wordplay and his eye for detail.
If you’re unfamiliar with the author, get your head checked. (JK). Havok is a singer and songwriter for the bands AFI and Blaqk Audio. He is also an actor who has appeared in numerous films and on Broadway in Green Days American Idiot.
He’s designed fashion, jewelry and footwear. Born in 1975 in Rochester, NY, Havok moved to California with his family when he was five years old. He dropped out of UC Berkeley to pursue his music career. Today Havok divides his time between Oakland and Los Angeles. POP KIDS is the first book in a planned trilogy.
