Filmmakers Spotlight: Tony Nawrocki of ‘When Skies are Blue’

This week’s Artist Spotlight is on Writer, Producer and Director Tony Nawrocki, whose film was screened by NewFilmmakers Los Angeles at Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood, CA. Get to know Nawrocki and his latest project. 
Tell us a little bit about your project and how long you’ve been working on it. 
When Skies are Blue is about a trapped teen battling his inner demons with rock n’ roll. As for how long I’ve been working on it… Every movie lasts a lifetime…
Is there anyone you’d like to thank for helping out with this film?
I would like to thank my extraordinary cast and crew for their creativity and craft, as well as the people of North Judson Indiana for helping to make this movie a reality.

How does it feel to have your film part of the NewFilmmakers Screening at Sunset Gower Studios?
Historic.
What inspires you?
The wind in the trees.
Who are your influences and who do you admire?
My family…then… Kubrick, Lynch, Paul Thomas Anderson, Spielberg, Lucas The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Motown, Steve Yzerman and Jon Fegel the list is longer but…
What lessons have you learned from the industry so far?
Be on time.
If you could collaborate with anybody, who would it be?
Paul McCartney.
What is the toughest experience you’ve ever had to overcome?
Finishing this film.  I had to fight for every frame.
What is the best piece of advice someone has given to you?
After 99 No’s, you are due for a Yes.
What advice would you give to new filmmakers starting out in the industry?
Follow your instincts and always be creating.
Where can we expect to see you next?
The three-dollar movie theater in Pasadena. I’ll be wearing a blue baseball hat.
